MONSTA X

MONSTA X (몬스타엑스) consists of 6 members: Shownu, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Joohoney, and I.M. They were created through the survival program NO.MERCY. MONSTA X debuted on May 14, 2015, under Starship Entertainment. Monsta X is also under the US label Maverick Agency as of February 26th 2019. On October 31, 2019 following the recent controversies, Wonho announced his departure from the group.


Shownu Facts

• Son Hyun-woo (Korean: 손현우, born June 18, 1992), better known by his stage name Shownu, is a South Korean singer and dancer. He is the leader, lead vocalist, and main dancer of the South Korean boy group Monsta X, which debuted under Starship Entertainment in 2015 through the Mnet's survival show No.Mercy.

• Shownu is a credited writer on "Mirror" from Follow: Find You, and as a writer and composer on three of Monsta X's tracks from their sixth studio album All About Luv; including "Who Do U Love?" featuring French Montana, "Middle of the Night", and "Beside U" featuring Pitbull. Shownu also co-wrote "Someone's Someone" alongside the Before You Exit members.

• In 2019, he again featured in a magazine alongside Wonho, for Elle Korea in August, where they were promoting Tom Ford's latest perfume line. He also featured on the cover of BEAUTY+ in October and again in November 2020.

• In October, he had a solo feature in Dazed Korea for the Monsta X Dazed Project, GQ Korea to create a fashion film promoting Under Armour, and he appeared on the back cover of 1st Look Magazine Korea promoting Moschino Toy Boy perfume. After the magazine's release, Moschino perfume's Toy 2 sold out on Olive Young's online mall and also ranked first in perfume brand ranking. Following the success of the promotion, Shownu was selected as the first Korean muse for Italian luxury fashion brand Moschino perfume.

• In July, Shownu with other Monsta X members' Hyungwon and I.M also joined Pepsi's Taste of Korea summer campaign, releasing a promotional single "Summer Taste" alongside Rain, Brave Girls members' Yujeong and Yuna, and Ateez members' Hongjoong and Yunho.

• Shownu enlisted for his mandatory military service on July 22, 2021. He will serve as public service worker due to previous surgery for left eye retinal detachment.

Minhyuk Facts

• Lee Min-hyuk (Korean: 이민혁, born November 3, 1993), better known as Minhyuk, is a South Korean singer and MC. He debuted in the South Korean boy group Monsta X, formed in 2015 through the Mnet's survival show No.Mercy under Starship Entertainment.

• Beginning in December 2014, he competed in the Mnet's survival show No.Mercy. In the finale of the show, Lee was the final member confirmed to be one of the seven contestants debuting in Starship Entertainment's new boy group Monsta X.

• In June 2019 he released a mixtape single "옹심이" ("Ongsimi"), with a music video released through Starship Entertainment's YouTube page. The single featured his fellow group member Joohoney, and was described by Minhyuk as "EDM Hip Trot".

• Beginning late 2019, Minhyuk began expanding his individual activities. In October, he became one of the three MCs for SBS's Inkigayo, alongside Naeun and Jaehyun, hosting the show weekly every Sunday.

• For Monsta X's sixth studio album All About Luv, Minhyuk is a credited writer and composer on three of their tracks.

• In July 2020, Minhyuk launched the Vogue Ship Show on Naver Now, a weekly radio show that focuses on creating art while connecting with fans. Most episodes host guests, usually other idols, including members of g.o.d., labelmates such as Jeong Se-woon, and members of Cravity, as well as groupmates from Monsta X. In August, Minhyuk was announced to be an MC for the new KT Seezn program Back to the Idol, alongside Eunhyuk.

• In 2022, Minhyuk works for the album artwork of Monsta X's eleventh EP Shape of Love. He showed his affection for fans, by putting the words written by the fan cafe on the canvas, photos of the concert hall, and the memories of Monbebe in one place, as well as mobilizing a photo book.

• In November, Minhyuk appeared on King of Mask Singer with the identity of "Baepsae", winning the first two rounds he competed in, but losing in the third round.

• On July 16, Minhyuk and Shownu also appeared in the fashion magazine W Korea, promoting the German premium luggage brand Rimowa.

• In August, he was chosen as global brand Korean muse for the American clothing brand Champion and will be part of the 2021 F/W pictorial.

• In February 2022, Minhyuk became one of the faces of the Korean cosmetic and skincare brand Olive Young's Vegan Beauty campaign, alongside group member Joohoney and his labelmate Liz of Ive.

• In July, Minhyuk became the new face and exclusive model in Korea and Japan for the skincare brand Floun.

Kihyun Facts

• Yoo Ki-hyun (Korean: 유기현; born November 22, 1993), better known mononymously as Kihyun, is a South Korean singer and songwriter. He is a vocalist in the South Korean boy group Monsta X, from Mnet's survival show No.Mercy, which debuted under Starship Entertainment in 2015. Kihyun made his solo debut with the single album Voyager in March 2022, in addition to having released several original soundtracks, further establishing himself as "K-pop God", "Vocal God", and "The K in K-pop".

• In December 2014, Kihyun competed in the Mnet's survival show No.Mercy. Along with six other trainees from the show, Monsta X was formed, a hip-hop idol group that debuted under Starship Entertainment on May 14, 2015 with the EP Trespass. Through the survival show, he also released 2 collaboration tracks in 2015; "Pillow" with Sistar's Soyou and Giriboy on January 14, and "0 (Young)" with Giriboy, Mad Clown, Jooyoung, and other remaining trainees in No.Mercy on February 4.

• Kihyun appeared as a contestant on King of Mask Singer with the name "Tell Them I'm the Dragon King" on January 3, 2016. He won the first round against Apink's Namjoo, known as "Good Daughter Shim Cheong". On the second round of the competition, he lost to Lim Jeong-hee, known as "Rolled Good Fortune", with the difference of three votes.

• For Monsta X's album All About Luv, Kihyun participated in writing and producing of three songs, including "Who Do U Love?" featuring French Montana (and its remix by will.i.am), "Middle of the Night", and "Beside U". He had previously co-written "I Do Love U" from Take.1 Are You There? with three other members, as well as co-written and produced the song "No Exit" for their debut EP Trespass.

• In February, Kihyun released a song for the soundtrack of the drama Replay: The Moment, titled "O.M.O.M.". He was praised for his work on the drama, in particular that his voice was able to express the "sweetness and softness" that complemented the drama.

• Kihyun made his solo debut with the single album Voyager, including the lead single of the same name, contributing to the lyrics of the song ", (Comma)" on March 15, 2022.

• On October 14, Kihyun will perform in the KCON event KCON 2022 Japan, to be held at Ariake Arena in Tokyo. On October 24, he will also release his first EP Youth, including the lead single of the same name.

• In May 2022, Kihyun became the new muse for the Korean unisex street brand AQOstudiospace's 2022 summer collection, which held various promotions, such as SNS participation and exclusive photocards events.

• On August 22, Kihyun became the model for the Korean lifestyle beauty brand Lalafranc, through the Korean fashion, beauty, and life magazine Singles.

Hyungwon Facts

• Chae Hyung-won (Korean: 채형원, born January 15, 1994), mononymously as Hyungwon, is a South Korean singer, dancer, actor, model, DJ, songwriter, and producer. In 2015, he debuted in the South Korean boy group Monsta X, through the Mnet's survival show No.Mercy, under Starship Entertainment. In 2017, he began performing as a DJ, under the stage name DJ H.ONE.

• In 2014, while being a trainee at Starship Entertainment, he worked as a model for various fashion shows, such as W Hotel and Ceci Fashion Show.

• In 2020, he joined Pepsi's "Taste of Korea" summer campaign, alongside Rain, Monsta X members' Shownu and I.M, Brave Girls members' Yujeong and Yuna, and Ateez members' Hongjoong and Yunho.

• In July, Hyungwon has also been selected as new model for the Korean cosmetic brand Wellage, through the Korean star and style magazine AtStyle.

• Hyungwon collaborated with Hongbin and the producer dress for Pepsi's The Love of Summer: The Performance, releasing the song "Cool Love" on July 10, 2019.

• In 2020, Hyungwon participated in the writing, composing, and arranging for the song "Nobody Else" for Monsta X's album Fatal Love. He collaborated again with Justin Oh for the track, and it is the first song in which he was involved in each aspect of the song production. It was noted for showing Hyungwon's musical range when composing music, being so distinct in style from his EDM tracks as a DJ. In January 2021, the song charted at number ten on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart.

• In August, Hyungwon became the model for the French cosmetic brand Avène, through the Korean fashion, beauty, and life magazine Singles.

• Hyungwon, as an individual and a member of Monsta X, is expanding his field of activity and is making a trending move as an "all-rounder". He has boasted of "excellent model fit" by digesting various concepts, is also receiving a rush of love calls from the industry, such as advertising models, various pictorials, beauty, fashion, and catering, as if proving his infinite potential as a solo artist. He participated in various festivals, proving his high-quality DJing skills, along with acting in various shows. Hyungwon, having a limitless spectrum of music, acting, and DJing, is being reborn as an "all-rounder" from "global trend".

• Hyungwon appeared on Lee Young-ji's web entertainment show I Haven't Set Up, released on August 12. Although his appearance was not for publicity purposes, it is loved by many people, surpassing 4.6 million views within three days of being released, such as recording the number one video on YouTube everyday. He also became the hot topic and went viral in every social media platforms because of his visuals and humor, performing as a "complete all-rounder". His episode also ranked first on YouTube's most popular video for three days in a row and surpassed 5 million views within four days of being released.

Jooheon Facts

• Lee Joo-heon (Korean: 이주헌; born October 6, 1994), better known by the stage name Joohoney and formerly mononymously known as Jooheon, is a South Korean rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer. He is a member of the South Korean boy group Monsta X, which was formed through Mnet's survival show No.Mercy, under Starship Entertainment in 2015.

• In December 2014, Starship Entertainment and Mnet launched a survival program called No.Mercy and Joohoney was selected along with six other participants as part of the new boy group Monsta X on the last episode of the show.

• Lee Joo-heon is a South Korean rapper, songwriter, and producer, also known by the stage name Joohoney. He is a member of the South Korean boy group Monsta X and also a credited writer on the majority of their discography. He is also a credited writer and producer for his solo work. Joohoney had also written and produced works for other artists and groups, including fellow labelmates Mad Clown, Cravity, and groupmates Minhyuk and Hyungwon solo works. As of June 2022, he already had 149 credits in writing and producing through the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA).

• Since Monsta X's debut in 2015, Joohoney has been involved in songwriting for the group's discography, primarily in writing his raps for all of their albums, as well as more extensive writing and producing for several of their songs, garnering praise for his unique musicality. For Monsta X's 2020 EP Fantasia X, beyond writing his raps for the album, the two songs that he wrote and produced, "Flow" and "Stand Up", were noted for how they stood as two opposing songs on the album, a self-reflective track and a bright cheery song with an optimistic message. They were both noted for showing the softer side of Joohoney's usually aggressive music style, reflecting his versatility as an artist.

• For their EP One of a Kind, released in 2021, Joohoney was a credited producer on Monsta X's title track for the first time, previously only have written lyrics for their title tracks.

• In August 2018, he released his mixtape DWTD. For the release, Joohoney released a music video for the track "Red Carpet" and a few months later, in October, he released a second MV, this time for the track "Should I Do". The album charted in several countries, including charting at number eight and twenty-two on Billboard's World Album and Top Heatseekers Album charts, respectively.

• On October 9, Joohoney released his mixtape Psyche. He also pre-released the music video for the track "Intro: Ambition" on October 7, and then released the music video for "Smoky" simultaneous to the release of the mixtape. "Smoky" was described by Daniel Waters of MTV as an "emo-k-pop crossover", with Teen Vogue describing the chorus as "a sort of angsty rock 'n roll anthem" that both described as "cathartic". On October 21, Joohoney released a music video for the title track "Psyche".

• In July, he was selected as an exclusive model for SPAO FW season in collaboration with MUSINSA.

• In March, Joohoney became the new face of the street casual brand Born Champs.

I.M Facts

• Im Chang-kyun (Korean: 임창균; born January 26, 1996), known by the stage name I.M or mononymously as Changkyun, is a South Korean rapper, singer, and songwriter. In 2015, he debuted in the South Korean boy group Monsta X, through the Mnet's survival show No.Mercy, under Starship Entertainment. He made his solo debut with the EP Duality in February 2021.

• I.M was a late addition to Mnet's survival show No.Mercy, becoming the thirteenth competitor. Despite his late addition, he was one of the seven contestants chosen to debut in Starship Entertainment's new hip-hop boy group Monsta X.

• Im Chang-kyun is a South Korean rapper and songwriter, also known by the stage name I.M. He is a member of South Korean boy group Monsta X and has been a credited writer on the majority of their discography. Since Monsta X's debut in 2015, I.M has been involved in songwriting for the group's discography, primarily in writing his raps for all of their albums. In addition to Monsta X's discography, he writes and produces for his solo work and collaborative projects.

• Since 2020, the songs he composed for Monsta X have charted on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart. For Monsta X's album Fatal Love, the song "Night View", on which he was both a writer and composer for, ranked number thirteen on the chart without separate promotions or performances as a single. "Rotate", the song that he both wrote and composed for Monsta X's ninth EP One of a Kind, also placed number thirteen on the chart.

• In addition to his work with Monsta X, I.M debuted as a soloist on February 19, 2021 with his self-produced EP Duality, with the title track "God Damn". I.M was noted as showing versatility as an artist and expanding his musical style with his solo EP, when compared to his work in Monsta X. Furthermore, all the tracks from Duality charted on the weekly Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart, accounting for 20% of that week's chart when it was released.

• As of August 2022, I.M has a total of 124 writing and producing credits registered with the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA).

• In April, I.M released his mixtape with the lead single "Horizon", which was a collaboration with the American artist ELHAE. He released "Scent" as the B-side of the single.

• In June, I.M became the new model for Versace Eros Fragrance Perfume.

• In August, I.M was part of Baverse Studio's Welcome To My Baverse, which is a documentary where he can show his thoughts as a musician and as an idol group member. In September, I.M released the song "Loop" as part of his work for Welcome To My Baverse. He also contributed to the producing and composing of the song, as well as the production including the album cover image work.

• Starting on September 6, he became a new DJ for Naver Now's radio program Midnight Idol, alongside group member Kihyun.
