YouTube UX Design

What's cool and what stinks? Can you break it?

How easy is it to use of all pieces?

The cool things about YouTube are its UX and UI design. YouTube is an incredibly easy application to use due to its simple and pleasing UI which also creates an enjoyable environment for its UX design.

What are the benefits and the harmful effects/pros & cons?

Some benefits/pros to using YouTube is that it's easy, you can share your music, you can download music and podcasts, its compaitble with many devices, has a wide variety of music collection, and it's free. There are some harmful effects using YouTube. According to ACPCPsychology.com, YouTube was reported to have a "significantly negative impact on their sleep, as well as negative impacts on body image, bullying, and fear of missing out." There are some cons to using YouTube, according to Zemez, its obtrusiveness of its ads are a problem stating: even a short ad in the video people do not like. Moreover, the frequent display of ads can cause negative emotions in people, because it is too intrusive.

How does this innovation affect our culture?

YouTube has affected our culture by creating competition in the social media space because of its mass consumption of news and entertainment. According to Statistca, in 2020, YouTube was the 2nd most visited webpage right behind Google at 13.34 billion visits. With the sucess that YouTube has had over the past few years, it has opened up many new jobs for people to work at and has created more business in the industry. According to Alana Foster in her Ibc Article, YouTube laid the groundwork and contributed to the growth and popularisation of on-demand online video streaming with its service evolving over the years. Also, I believe this innovation has helped played a big part in connecting us with other cultures and passions that people share around the world. According to Pasi Tuominen in his Verke Article, he states: From a cultural perspective, the increasingly popular YouTube now offers a brand new way to produce content. It is an easy way for people to seek inspiration and share their own skills or things they are passionate about with others. It has also created a channel for sharing culture in a new way.

Beyond!

If you were to improve upon this innovation, what would you do and how would it make the innovation better?

If i were to improve upon this innovation, I would add a feature that would let you find videos based on what is said and seen from then rather than just text metadata. I believe this would make the innovation better because it can make browsing for videos easier on YouTube and engage more audiences into the platform.

Can you conceive of a separate innovation that can extend Beyond the innovation?

I don't think there is another innovation that is able to extend beyond this innovation. There is no other online media engine like YouTube because it's extremely difficult to compete with.
