Innovation: Spotify

How does the chosen innovation work?

What is it and what is its function?

Spotify is a digital application that allows you to listen to music, podcast, and video service that gives you access to millions of songs and other content from creators all over the world.

What in total is required to take advantage of said innovation?

To take advantage of this innovation is you must access it through its digital application via wifi, data, or the internet.

What 'problem' is it trying to solve?

Spotify provides entertainment through audio streaming music and podcasts.

What can you tell me about the creators? Do they create other work?

On April 26, 2006, Spotify was founded by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon. According to Britannica, Ek was born on February 21, 1983, in Stockholm, Sweeden, and is an entrepeneur, technologist, and the co-founder and CEO of Spotify. Spotify UX Design

What's cool and what stinks? Can you break it?

How easy is it to use of all pieces?

The cool things about Spotify are its UX and UI design. Spotify is an incredibly easy application to use due to its simple and pleasing UI which also creates an enjoyable environment for its UX design.

What are the benefits and the harmful effects/pros & cons?

Some benefits/pros to using Spotify is that it's easy, you can share your music, you can download music and podcasts, its compaitble with many devices, has a wide variety of music collection, and it's free. There are no harmful effects using Spotify, however, there are some cons to using Spotify according to Smritti Tiawar in his HPC Article, stating: it lacks lyrical features, it's expensive to buy Premium Spotify, it's unavaliable in some countries, it has weak sound quality for free users, ads for free users, and in-app limitations for free users.

How does this innovation affect our culture?

Spotify has affected our culture by creating competition in the music streaming space. Spotify is currently one of the most popular music streaming services in the entire world, competing with others apps like Apple Music, Youtube Music, Deezer, Tidal, and Amazon Music. With the sucess that Spotify has had over the past few years, it has opened up many new jobs for people to work at and has created more business in the industry. According to Ruya Yonak in her Audioxide Article, she claims that "Spotify has revolutionised how we consume music. From mood playlists to machine learning algorithms, the streaming service has become the definitive tastemaker." Also, I believe this innovation has helped played a big part in connecting us with other cultures around the world. According to Eamonn Forde in his Believe. Article, he states: "Indeed, a Spotify audience survey found that 77% of respondents believe that music helps them to connect with other listeners as well as other cultures."

Beyond!

If you were to improve upon this innovation, what would you do and how would it make the innovation better?

If i were to improve upon this innovation, I would add lyrical features to songs on Spotify and add a feature where you can follow your friends that use Spotify and you can view what albums they recently listened to and vice-versa. I belive this would make the innovation better because it can interest people, it creates more entertainment, and creates more activity within the app.

Can you conceive of a separate innovation that can extend Beyond the innovation?

I personally cannot think of ways to conceive of a sparate innovation that can extent beyong the innovation of a music streaming platform. There's only so much you can do with the limitatins you have working on a music streaming service.
